Bicycles for Humanity Melbourne 2023 Annual General Meeting & Packing Day

Last Sunday was an action-packed day for Bicycles for Humanity Melbourne!
We kicked off with a massive volunteer bicycle packing day in the morning. Over 15 volunteers helped prepare and pack donated bicycles into shipping container #32 – which is now almost completely full! Thank you to everyone who rolled up their sleeves and lent a hand – especially Sharon from Slipstream and the rest of the crew from Suntax.
After a spot of lunch, we commenced our 2023 Annual General Meeting (AGM). We bade a fond farewell to Uri Gordon, our tireless Board Chair, who has put in an enormous amount of effort into supporting and expanding Bicycles for Humanity Melbourne. We’re confident that our new Board Chair, Mike Harley, and Vice Chair, Jodie Long, will fill Uri’s big shoes. If you would like to know more of what was covered at the AGM, you can view a digital copy of the 2023 Bicycles for Humanity Melbourne AGM CEO Presentation.
One of the highlights of the day was announcing the 2023 Matt McCullough volunteer awards. The two recipients, Amanda James and Matthew Bufaderci, have put in countless hours of work into supporting Bicycles for Humanity Melbourne’s vision. Thank you for all your work so far (and all your work to come!)

Andy and Jacqui fundraising and running 90km in the Comrades Ultramarathon in South Africa

Andy and Jacqui will be putting one foot in front of the other for 90km along the Valley of 1000 Hills in the Comrades Ultramarathon in South Africa 🇿🇦.

Andy Gild is co-founder and CEO of Bicycles for Humanity Melbourne. Andy has been running marathons for several years and has competed in several triathlons. She is dedicated to grassroots charity and the Bicycles for Humanity (B4H) organisation. Therefore running a 90km ultramarathon, and fundraising for Bicycles for Humanity Melbourne, seems an appropriate way to help ensure more people have access to basic needs through the distribution of pre-loved, donated bicycles.

The best way to achieve goals is to partner with someone else. Andy is honoured to be accompanied, both in training and on the day itself, by her good friend and co-coach, Jacqui. In 2011 during the New York Marathon, Jacqui discovered for the first time what digging deep meant to her. Now as she returns to her place of birth for the first time in 44 years, this is an incredible time to explore how much deeper she can dig!

Andy, Jacqui and the entire Bicycles for Humanity Melbourne community (in Melbourne and Namibia) thank you for whatever support you are able to provide.

Just $30 can give a donated bicycle a new life in Africa.

Director & CEO Andy Gild’s Ultramarathon Preparation Biking in New Zealand

Our tireless Director, CEO and Co-Founder, Andy Gild, is participating in a 90km Ultramarathon in June where she will be raising funds for Bicycles for Humanity Melbourne.

To prepare for this Ultramarathon, Andy has done some hair-raising cross-training recently in New Zealand (Aotearoa). Andy ran 26km along the 302km Alps 2 Ocean Cycle Trail, which winds through New Zealand’s South Island through a variety of landscapes. Andy is also riding her road bike through much of the cycle trail to complete the full journey.

Andy commented during her New Zealand trail ride that:

“It is so incredible to be riding my bike for so much joy, knowing how significant a bike is for basic transport”.
